BFF Gift Guide: Pop Song Edition
Posted by Theadora on Dec 22nd 2022
Gift-giving is a great way to connect with your friends, colleagues, and family. So celebrating our multiple BFF bonds, we’ve created a list of gift suggestions. For instance, if your friend is obsessed with 1980s music, we’ve got you covered. Following suit with icons like Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, and Madonna, perhaps pick a faux leather or denim jacket?
Because, as we all know, these Pop Queens really knew how to walk while wearing a jacket and carrying a tune. Need proof? Check out Tina’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” Madonna’s “Borderline,” and Whitney’s “You Give Good Love.” We’ve also got the faux leather skirts and leggings, black sunglasses, and jewelry in silver and gold. So maybe Don Henley and the Eagles got it wrong, and it IS possible to look back. You can always look back, or so we think! Now, let’s get into the gift-giving groove.
1. Meghan Trainor: Made You Look (2022)
Let’s start at the top of the current pop charts with Meghan Trainor’s retro-rocking “Made You Look” song. Got that special friend who has been part of the “Megatronz” fan base since her peppy breakout “All About That Bass” shoo-wop, bop? No treble! Boasting pearls, sequins, feathers, and metallic, candy-colored hues, we’ve got a stash of Instagram-ready, reel-friendly tops. Not sure about size? Then perhaps instead go with a stacked pearl bracelet, a blush-colored metallic beanie, a pearl-embellished hat with a perky pompom, or golden gloves with black faux fur trimming. Don’t we make it look easy?
2. Harry Styles: Adore You (2019)
As one YouTube reviewer wrote: “This song has only one problem: it finishes!” We agree. We also adore Harry’s vintage-vibe in this video. Perhaps his elegant, outdoorsy OOTD is perfect for your colleague or work-from-home BFF (Best Fish Forever)? We’ve not only got tiger-shaped rings, but also newsboy caps, plaid jackets, and clear vinyl Sling bags with guitar straps. You will definitely make a splash with the “Harries” in your life with one of these golden gifts. Would you believe it? Sometimes there’s only one direction: Make your peeps happier.
3. Taylor Swift: Lover (2019)
Every blue moon, my office mate plays Taylor Swift songs non-stop. I’ve got a plan, though. Report her to H.R.? Heck, no. I’m also a “Swiftie” at heart. So I’ve gathered Taylor-related gifts, based on the singer-songwriter’s “Easter eggs” (hidden messages) in her videos: Cats, hearts, and butterflies—oh, fly. Perfect for shaking off the holiday stress, we’ve got cat- patterned umbrellas, cat caps, heart-shaped hoops, and butterfly-shaped rings. Looking for a treasure for your “Swiftie” sister? How about a teddy coat in fuchsia? Or hit the right note with a hand-beaded, music-inspired phone bag. Because having fun with fashion never goes out of style.
4. Ariana Grande: Thank U Next (2019)
There’s so much to love about this video. Featuring Ariana Grande, it checks all boxes for me: the message of forgiveness and self-love and the nods to movies like “Mean Girls” and “Legally Blonde,” along with a terrific Jennifer Coolidge cameo. Plus, the OOTDS are not only fun, but would make fab gifts. Think pink in glossy suits, butterfly jewelry, star earrings, faux fur-trimmed coats, and feather tops. Here Ariana moves forward to a new phase in life, but not before showing love to her posse. If you’d like to spoil your super star “Arianator” friends to the moon, perhaps score a shiny, sequined “Champagne” graphic pullover or one of our star necklaces?
5. Dolly Parton: Jolene (1974)
Dolly Parton always says, “A great smile is a wonderful asset, but a good heart is pure gold.” I’m with her on that. As the self-appointed president of an unofficial, very local, and utterly exclusive fan club and proud owner of the “Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics” book, I feel it’s my duty to share her gusto for life in motion and fashion, too. For our Dolly fans, we’ve got suede and plaid fringe jackets, a gemstone-embellished fitted top in black, and a western-inspired belt by Most Wanted, along with Dolly tee shirts and a Lil Nas X-worthy silver horse bracelet by Texas-based Susan Shaw. Honestly, with any one of these gifts, Jolene doesn’t stand a chance.
