Shine Bright Like a Rhinestone

Shine Bright Like a Rhinestone

Love for all that glitters is most definitely in the air here at Scout & Molly's. In fact, the new collection by Current Air not only made us look, but also stole our hearts with its rom-glam vibe. Inspired by old-school Hollywood’s meshing of structured tailoring and fluid fabric draping, the dresses, skirts, and blouses by the Los Angeles-based label are perfect for the holidays, along with the approaching Super Bowl, Golden Globes, and Grammy television-watching parties. Beaming with red carpet glamour, you’ll be the talk of the bash, and toast of your I.G. feed as you confidently strike your foot pops and Vogue-like poses like it’s 1990.

Where to start?

If you’re new to metallic sartorial, here’s a one-line tutorial: Do like I did and try one element first: I tested the waters with pewter-colored Mirage boots by Scout. When that left me feeling happy, I then upped my game of glitz with a bias-cut skirt in razzle-dazzle purple by Current Air. Next, I balanced its bright hue and slightly swishy hemline with a fitted tulle top and a fuzzy Teddy topper, too. I also treated myself to rhinestone-incrusted boots by Scout, perfect for impromptu dancing with my cat to “As It Was” by Harry Styles yet again, because shiny and happy is exactly how this smooth, fits-like-a-glove skirt and Elsa of Arendelle-worthy boots make me feel. Let it go—let it go, indeed!

Comfort is everything: Meet Madeleine.

French couturier Madeleine Vionnet was one of the first to support the transformative, liberating power of the “Bias Cut” in Paris during the 1920s after ditching the corset. Never using sketches at the start of a design project, Mme. V. preferred to work directly on miniature wooden models, often using her “secret sauce” bias cut, following the curves of the body. Directing the flow of the folds with bare hands, she’d cut and pin the fabrics, resulting in creations that resembled classical Greek statues. This construction allowed the draped silhouettes to cling to the body, allowing for more natural movement—and dancing!

This innovative “Mistress of the Geometrician” also thought that shiny textiles (perfect for the silver screen) were always a great idea—night and day. Mme. Vionnet would have definably approved of Constant Air’s day-to-night collection of soft, glossy works of art. Innovation and inspiration almost always move us forward.

As Mme. Vionett herself used to say, “When a woman smiles, her dress must smile with her.”

We completely agree! Repeating one of our mantras of the season: Comfort is everything.
